Frequently Asked Questions

I charge $95/hour, and most repairs take between one and two hours. There is a 1 hour minimum.

After the first hour, time is rounded to the nearest ten minutes. This does not include parts.

When we talk, over the phone, email or text, I will ask you questions that give me a fuller picture of the problem(s) you are having.

I offer a $50 diagnostic that generally takes 30 minutes, after which I will tell you what the problem looks like and the options for fixing it.

Anything that takes longer than 30 minutes to diagnose would be charge at the regular hourly price, but not more than one hour.

For some common repairs, I can tell you what to expect as far as cost goes.  Some example are:

battery replacement

screen replacement

keyboard replacement

DC jack / powerjack replacement

Software problems are usually resolved within 24 to 48 hours. Hardware problems that don’t require parts are usually resolved within 48 hours; if the repair needs parts, then it is usually 24 hours after the part arrives.

I offer both at-your-location repairs and you can bring your computer to me.

Because I do mobile repairs as well as in my workshop which is located at my home, any repairs done here would need to be done by appointment only.

Yes. The travel charge is based on the time it takes to make a round trip from my home.

It’s always a good idea to back up your important files, folders, pictures and music before having your computer repaired. While every effort is taken to protect your data during the repair, there is always a chance of data loss; especially if dealing with malfunctioning or failing hardware.  Because some repairs can be unpredictable, I recommend you back up your data, just in case.

Yes. Software repairs have a two-week warranty, while hardware repairs have a 30 day warranty on labor, plus whatever warranty the part seller offers.

Not at this time. I also do not offer hardware repair on Microsoft Surface devices.

Yes, as long as the part you bought is the proper part for the repair.  However, I don’t offer warranty on parts you bring.  If the part you bought is the wrong part, you will be charged for the cost of the correct part.

Yes. Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover.

Check that the power cords are plugged in correctly and that the power strip is turned on.

Turn the power off and wait one hour and then turn the computer back on.

Turn the computer all the way off and wait a minute, then turn the computer back on.  If your browser asks to “Restore pages” say no.

Close the browser, disconnect from the Wi-Fi, restart your computer.  After the computer is restarted check to see if your Wi-Fi says “connected”.

Check to see if the printer is turned on, plugged in and connected to the same Wi-Fi as your computer.

Make sure the box that has your Wi-Fi is turned on and all the lights are on, then find the Wi-Fi that has the name you’ve given it and click on it; from there enter your password.

Immediately turn off your laptop and clean up as much of the spill as you can.  Using a hair dryer on low sweep it across the area of the spill for five minutes or until no liquid remains visible.  Allow the laptop to sit with the power off for two hours to allow any remaining liquid to dry.

Try a replacement power cord.  Otherwise this means the power jack or the battery needs replacement.

It means that your screen has broken and must be replaced.

To reset your computers password, you need a password reset tool.

I have one; call me at 425-218-7786
